Washed Sand

Concrete & mortar

A perfectly clean sand with all the clays washed out — the all-rounder of the range, produced at our own inland quarry.

How it’s made

Raw sand from the pit is screened to size, then washed until the clays are gone completely. What's left is clean, consistent sand — and every load is checked before it goes out the gate, so what lands on your site is the same as the last one.

Raw pit sand carries clay and silt through it. Left in, those fines coat the grains, hold water, and stop cement and lime pastes bonding properly — which is how you end up with weak mortar, slumping bedding and paving that moves. Washing takes them out, so what's left is clean grain that behaves predictably wherever it's used.

The same clean sand does very different work depending on how it's screened. Finer cuts bed and screed smooth; coarser cuts drain freely and lock up under load. Because it's screened to order rather than sold as one all-purpose grade, the sensible move is to tell us what the sand is going under or into and let the cut follow the job.

MRP Sand Quarry is an inland sand quarry — nothing is dredged off a coastline. Inland deposits hold a far wider range of grain sizes than coastal sand, so we screen and cut sizes from ultra fines right up to coarse, and because the sand has never been near seawater there's no salt in it. Tell us the size the job needs and we cut to it.
