Bulk sand prices vary by grade and location. Fill sand is typically the cheapest at around $30-45 per tonne; washed concreting sand sits around $60-90 per tonne; brickies sand around $55-80 per tonne; specialty sands (silica, pool filter, kiln dried) can be $200+ per tonne. MaterialSales lists each supplier's live price ex-GST so you can compare without phoning around. Delivery is quoted separately by the supplier based on distance and load size.

Washed sand (also called concreting sand or river sand) is clean, low-silt sand used for concrete, mortar, rendering and paver bedding. Brickies sand is fatty clay-content sand specifically for bricklaying mortar — yellow or white grades. Fill sand is the cheapest, used for trench fill, backfill and bulk site levelling — not suitable for concrete or mortar.

A rough guide: 1 cubic metre of sand weighs about 1.5 tonnes. A standard tipper-truck load is 8-12 tonnes (around 5-8 cubic metres). For paver bedding, allow ~50mm depth (so 0.05m³ per square metre). For brickies sand on a typical brick veneer, allow about 1 tonne per 1000 bricks. Confirm the exact quantity with your supplier when you enquire — they'll often advise on load size and delivery options.

Most bulk sand is delivered by tipper truck (8-20 tonnes typical) or semi-tipper for larger loads. Bulka bags (1m³ / about 1.5 tonnes) are common for smaller domestic jobs and can be crane-offloaded. The supplier confirms delivery method, access requirements and delivery fee when you contact them.
