Screened topsoil typically ranges from $50-90 per cubic metre ex-GST. Premium garden loam blends and certified organic vegie mix cost more — often $80-130 per m³. Bulk clean fill is much cheaper (sometimes free if you take it from civil sites). MaterialSales lists each supplier's live price ex-GST.

For a new lawn, allow 100-150mm of topsoil or 80/20 turf underlay (so 0.1-0.15m³ per square metre — about 10-15 cubic metres for a 100m² lawn). For a new garden bed, 200-300mm depth is typical. The supplier will confirm quantity for your dimensions when you enquire.

VENM (Virgin Excavated Natural Material) is certified clean fill that has never been used or contaminated — straight from excavation. ENM (Excavated Natural Material) is similar but allows slight inclusions. Both come with documentation required for council-spec projects and contaminated-site work. Use the certified grade when council inspectors will check.

Topsoil is screened natural soil — used as a base layer under turf or for general gardening. Vegie garden mix is a premium organic blend designed specifically for raised beds and vegetable patches (higher organic matter, better nutrition). Potting mix (AS 3743) is engineered for containers — drains freely, doesn't compact, contains controlled fertiliser.
